On December 14, 2019, the Eighth “Shenzhen Copyright Gold Award” ceremony was grandly held in Nanshan District. The event was guided by the Nanshan District Science and Innovation Bureau and jointly organized by the Shenzhen Copyright Association, Shenzhen Broadcasting Corporation, and Shenzhen Press Group.
At the ceremony, leaders from the National Copyright Administration, the Copyright and Printing Management Division of the Provincial Propaganda Department, the Municipal Propaganda Department, the Intellectual Property Promotion Division of the Shenzhen Market Supervision and Administration Bureau, and the Nanshan District Science and Innovation Bureau presented trophies and certificates of honor to the award-winning organizations and individuals. This was in recognition of their outstanding achievements in the field of copyright in 2019.

This year's Shenzhen Copyright Gold Award has selected a total of 28 awards across six categories, including 10 "Copyright Work Awards," 5 "Copyright Utilization Awards," 4 "Copyright Protection Awards," 5 "Outstanding Copyright Manager Awards," 2 "Annual Leading Copyright Registration Awards," and 2 "Annual Emerging Copyright Industry Enterprise Awards."
Among the works that received the "Copyright Work Award," there are many outstanding pieces that have won international awards. One notable example is the porcelain piece "Heavenly Journey" wall plate, which won the prestigious Gold Medal at the 2019 SGIA (Society for Graphic and Imaging Technology) Pinnacle Awards, often referred to as the "Oscars of the ceramics industry," held in Dallas, Texas, USA. This work was inspired by aerial photographs taken by Mr. Zhan Peiming, the chief craftsman of Shenzhen Stagao Porcelain Art Co., Ltd., of Lake Magadi and flocks of birds flying over the river in eastern Kenya, Africa. It combines photographic art with the aesthetics of decorative ceramics, integrating traditional Chinese ceramic culture with modern lifestyle. The piece and its series of artistic derivatives were officially launched at the 126th China Import and Export Fair, attracting significant attention from domestic and international buyers, many of whom have already placed orders.

Among the "Copyright Work Awards," the most fiercely contested category was for film and television works. After rigorous selection processes, the following works ultimately stood out:

"Boonie Bears: Primeval Times" by Huayi Brothers (Shenzhen) Animation Co., Ltd.
"Police Car Alliance: Guardians of the City" by Shenzhen Forest Wood Culture Communication Co., Ltd.
"Submarine Toto: Alien Baby Plan" by Shenzhen Universal Digital Film and Television Culture Co., Ltd.
DJI "RoboMaster" animation by Shenzhen DJI Technology Co., Ltd.

The Shenzhen Copyright Gold Award has always promoted a diverse range of creative works, encouraged innovation, and not been limited to any specific style or type of work. This year's award-winning works cover a wide spectrum, including animation, film and television, applied arts, sound recordings, and even modern dance. The modern dance piece "White Wall," which is performed purely through bodily expression, is a notable example. This work embodies the young people's contemplation of life, portrays their urban living and emotional states, and expresses how people can break through the "walls" in front of them and seek new horizons at different stages of life. Produced by the Shenzhen Dancers Association, "White Wall" is an original dance piece created through the "Talented Youth Program" and had its premiere at the Shenzhen Grand Theatre in July 2019.

Shenzhen has always been an inclusive city, known for its broad-mindedness that embraces everyone who arrives as a “Shenzhener.” This city gathers dream-chasers from all over the country, and it’s natural for them to miss their hometowns amidst their struggles. Among this year’s Copyright Work Award winners, the teaware set "Homeland" by Shenzhen Cao Mu He Culture and Art Co., Ltd. embodies the homesickness of wanderers. Named after the word "homeland" from Qian Qi’s poem, which means “hometown,” this set allows wanderers to use the "Homeland" utensils, sip hometown tea, and reminisce about their roots. It reflects the essence of remembering one’s origins while its adaptability to any decoration style symbolizes our ability to adjust to new environments and develop versatile skills.
In today's IP-centric market, cultural and creative enterprises are racing to maximize copyright value through IP licensing models, branching out into games, literature, animation, film and television, music, and drama. However, only a few can survive the fierce competition and deserve social recognition. The Copyright Utilization Award honors entities, groups, and individuals who actively leverage copyright resources, promote the distribution of copyright works, convert copyright resources into social wealth, and generate significant economic and social benefits. This year’s winners include "Boonie Bears Land 2" by Huayi Brothers (Shenzhen) Animation Co., Ltd., "Police Car Alliance: Guardians of the City" by Shenzhen Forest Wood Culture Communication Co., Ltd., the commercial application system of "Train Express" by Shenzhen Train Express Animation Technology Co., Ltd., the Super Intelligent Football animation series by Shenzhen Cube Animation Culture Development Co., Ltd., and "Companion" by Shenzhen Broadcasting Corporation.
Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, especially the 19th, there has been a strong advocacy for innovative culture and enhanced intellectual property protection, elevating IP protection to new heights. This progress is inseparable from the contributions of copyright teams and industry elites. The Copyright Protection Award recognizes units that have made outstanding contributions to exploring new challenges in copyright protection, combating infringement and piracy, maintaining a healthy copyright market, regulating the market economy, and promoting the development of the copyright industry. This year’s awardees include the Intellectual Property Adjudication Division of Luohu District People’s Court of Shenzhen, Comrade Lei Guisen from the Intellectual Property Adjudication Division of Futian District People’s Court of Shenzhen, Comrade Cao Wei from Shenzhen Bolin Culture and Innovation Co., Ltd., and Shenzhen Xunlei Network Technology Co., Ltd..
The Outstanding Copyright Manager Award was presented to five seasoned copyright professionals: Zhang Zhaoqin from Shenzhen Broadcasting Corporation, Zhang Yongcong from Shenzhen Dianmao Technology Co., Ltd., Weng Yunzhou from Shenzhen Xunlei Network Technology Co., Ltd., Bai Peng from Shenzhen Qiu Shi Intellectual Property Technology Co., Ltd., and Xu Xun from Shenzhen Enfang Culture Media Communication Co., Ltd.. This award honors managers who have long been engaged in copyright work, successfully commercialized creative products, and maintained market order through copyright protection.
Enterprises are the main bearers of social productivity and the primary force in improving the quality of intellectual property creation. Innovative enterprises play an indispensable role in accelerating IP utilization, building IP trading platforms, and driving IP monetization, forming a strong support for the development of the copyright industry. The Annual Leading Copyright Registration Award and the Annual Emerging Copyright Industry Enterprise Award recognize companies that have made significant achievements in copyright registration, innovation, utilization, protection, and management. This year’s winners are Shenzhen Yun Chuang Clothing Design Co., Ltd., Shenzhen Kainda Jewelry Co., Ltd., Shenzhen Enfang Culture Media Communication Co., Ltd., and HuaBan Culture Co., Ltd..
The ceremony was supported by leaders from the National Copyright Administration of China, the Copyright and Printing Management Division of Guangdong Provincial Propaganda Department, Shenzhen Municipal Propaganda Department, Shenzhen Market Supervision and Administration Bureau (Intellectual Property Bureau), Shenzhen Market Supervision and Administration Bureau Nanshan Supervision Bureau, and Nanshan District Science and Innovation Bureau. They presented trophies and certificates to the awardees. Nearly 200 people from Tencent Research Institute, Shenzhen Guoxin South Intellectual Property Research Institute, the judicial community, the creative cultural industry, and member units of the Shenzhen Copyright Association attended the event.
